The Madison Education Foundation’s annual 5K is right around the corner – it will be held at Madison High School on Sunday, May 5, at 10:00 AM. Its goal is to raise money for educational enrichment grants. Last year, the MEF raised almost $32,000 with nearly 600 race bibs.

Money raised from these kinds of events goes directly back into the Madison education system. The MEF has awarded nearly $400,000 to MHS alone; Digital Photography teacher Shannon Lavelle was recently awarded a grant that allowed her to purchase over a dozen new cameras and Macbooks. In our very own journalism room, an MEF grant funded the purchase of ten new iMacs to help students be more productive.

Past runners are also planning to run again. “It’s rewarding,” commented Maddy Watson, a senior at MHS. “We’re all there to run together and help the community while doing so.” “There’s something for everyone,” confessed Mrs. Bergen, another  participant. “There are plenty of walkers and children doing the fun run too.”

If you want to contribute to the event, come out and register at 9:00 AM before the race or do so on the website. You’ll join hundreds of other runners in helping the Madison School District.
