Stephen Colbert, an American comedian and show host of The Colbert Report, also hosted the Emmy Awards this year. Right away, he opened the show with a musical number and a boatload of President Trump jokes. He did not hold back and continued to blame the Emmys “for inspiring President Donald Trump — who has been nominated for Emmys multiple times in the past — to run for president” (ABC, How the 2017 Emmys got political). Colbert continued to say, “But unlike the presidency, Colbert said, the “Emmys go to the winner of the popular vote” (ABC, How the 2017 Emmys got political). Along with Colbert’s remarks about Trump, White house press secretary Sean Spicer came out on stage to “assess the crowd size. When asked about how many eyeballs were on the show, Spicer delivered: “This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys period — both in person and around the world,” referencing his own controversial responses to contested reports about Trump’s inauguration crowd size” (Emmys 2017 Politics). The reactions to Sean Spicer coming on stage and his remarks might have been the best part of the show.

In addition to the Trump madness, Kate McKinnon won an award for her performance of Hillary Clinton on Saturday Night live who she also thanked in her acceptance speech (2017 Emmys). During a 9 to 5 reunion on stage, Actress Lilly Tomlin referred to Trump as a “sexist, egotistical, lying hypocritical bigot” (Trump at Emmys).

TV Shows like “This is Us”, “The Voice”, “The Handmaid’s Tale”, and “Big Little Lies” are just some that received an Emmy. (Winners List) Many talented actors and actresses won awards that night but all Trump got was a big L.
